Samsung’s most affordable smartphone just got a whole lot cheaper

Samsung might be best known for its all-singing, all-dancing flagships or its super flexible foldables, but Samsung also caters to the more affordable end of the spectrum – and its latest affordable phone just dropped in price.

Already affordable at its £199 RRP, the Samsung Galaxy A16 5G has dropped by 15% over at Amazon, bringing the phone down to an even more affordable £169. What’s more, the offer is available across the Blue Black, Light Green and Light Grey finishes, allowing you to choose the colour option that best suits your taste.

Samsung’s entry-level Galaxy A16 5G is down to a fantastic price, making it a tempting option for anyone looking for a budget blower.

And, unlike some Amazon offers that are exclusive to Prime members, you don’t need a paid subscription to take advantage of this limited-time offer – so be quick if you’re tempted to pick up a new budget blower.

At its discounted £169 price point, the Samsung Galaxy A16 offers an impressive selection of hardware.

That includes a vibrant 6.7-inch AMOLED screen with a 90Hz refresh rate – faster than the iPhone 16’s 60Hz – along with a triple camera setup headed by a 50MP primary camera, a 5000mAh battery and 25W fast charging to boot. There’s also, of course, the 5G connectivity of its namesake.

The MediaTek Helio G99 powers it, and while it won’t be able to perform at the same level as top-end flagships, it should be sufficient for day-to-day use – just don’t try to run any top-end 3D games and expect buttery smooth framerates.

What makes the Galaxy A16 truly stand out, however, is Samsung’s long-term commitment to software updates. It’s not quite the seven OS upgrades that the flagship Galaxy phones get, but six OS upgrades are on the way – and that’s unheard of at the budget end of the market.

Even high-end flagship phones like the Motorola Razr 60 Ultra are only getting three OS upgrades, meaning that the Galaxy A16’s software will only continue to improve over time.

If you want a phone with hardware and software that punches well above its entry-level nature, the Samsung Galaxy A16 5G is a great choice, made all the more tempting at its discounted price point.
