Samsung may be planning to bring back support for the S-Pen stylus when it launches its next-generation Galaxy Z Fold 8 foldable according to a new rumour.

When Samsung refreshed its design for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 handset it removed the digitiser necessary to support the S-Pen, which was a staple of the well-liked Note series of phones replaced by the foldable handsets.

Now, according to a new tip from the known leaker Lanzuk, Samsung may be preparing to restore the functionality for a wider Galaxy Z Fold potentially on track for 2026. The rumour says it is possible the manufacturer will change the aspect ratio and and the thickness to accommodate support for the accessory, with the wider aspect ratio considered to counter expectations for Apple’s more panoramic iPhone Fold.

An Android Authority report suggests Samsung is also working on a chip-based solution that wouldn’t require the company to re-add the digitiser. It has also been rumoured that Samsung would ease the S-Pen’s return by removing titanium from the hinge in favour of a carbon fibre reinforced plastic version.

Our reviewer was in favour of the S Pen’s axing from the Galaxy Z Fold 7, claiming even ardent fans would prefer the extra pocket space. He wrote: “Samsung had to remove some display tech to achieve such svelte proportions, meaning there’s no more stylus support. But even die-hard S Pen supporters will have to agree ditching of the digitiser layer was the right move. I’m far happier with a thinner foldable in my pocket, than one with features I’ve never used. Don’t forget you had to pay extra for an S Pen to use with previous Folds, and there was nowhere to store one unless you also bought a case.”

Our reviewer also called it the “greatest generational upgrade yet” for Samsung’s book-like foldable range. Would it be wise to go back?
