When we test a laptop, we do it right. Every inch of the portable is touched and evaluated. We see how the screen looks in multiple different environments, precisely measure its color range, and watch how it performs for video streaming, text reading, and more. We benchmark hardware with extensive and reliable tests, using multiple methods to create the most accurate and informative picture of how it stacks up. And when the dust is clear, a few laptops stand head and shoulders above the rest and receive the coveted Editors’ Choice award. Getting that precious red badge means the laptop in question is the absolute best in its category, and we’ve got some sweet discounts on three winners released in 2025.
If you’re the creative type and need a portable PC that gives you the clearest and sharpest view of what you’re working on, the Asus ProArt PX13 is our top pick. In our review, contributing editor Eric Grevstad called it “a super-screened, screaming-fast compact convertible for demanding creative apps” thanks to its speedy Ryzen processor and impressive 32GB RAM loadout. The Pantone-validated VESA DisplayHDR OLED screen is the biggest selling point, though. This is far and away one of the best displays you’re going to get on a portable in this weight class, with wide viewing angles, rich colors and deep contrast. Right now Best Buy has it on sale for $300 off.

A few years ago, it would have been inconceivable that a Chromebook could ascend to the lofty heights of an Editors’ Choice award, let alone a gaming Chromebook. But Google’s relentless refining of ChromeOS, combined with manufacturers building machines that take advantage of its quirks, has changed the game. In our review, we raved about the numerous high-end features like a 120HZ WQXGA screen, four-zone RGB keyboard, Wi-Fi 6E and Ethernet connectivity and boosted performance from the Intel Core 5 processor. If you’re into cloud-based gaming, this is the best machine on the market.

For a more budget-priced Chromebook that still impresses, the Asus Chromebook Plus CX3402 is the bee’s knees. In our review, analyst Matthew Smith said that it was the best all-around value Chromebook on the market thanks to a robust selection of ports (two USB Type-A ports, two USB Type-C ports, one HDMI-out, and a 3.5mm combo audio jack), Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 support, a comfortable and spacious keyboard with good key travel, and a surprisingly potent 10-core Intel Core i5-1335U processor with integrated Iris Xe graphics. It benchmarked well, has solid battery life and is a pleasure to use.
