A 15-YEAR-OLD has been named as the student who allegedly shot and killed a teacher and a pupil at a private Christian school in Madison, Wisconsin, police confirmed.
Three people are dead and six more injured after a student named Natalie Rupnow allegedly opened fire at Abundant Life Christian School on Monday morning.
Of the six injured, two students are in critical condition at the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The four other students have non-life-threatening injuries.
Cops found multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds when they arrived at the K-12 campus just before 11 am CST on Monday, Madison Chief Shon Barnes said at a press conference.
The alleged teen shooter, 15, who went by the name Samantha, was pronounced dead on the way to hospital.
Barnes said the suspect’s family is cooperating with police in their investigation.
The Madison Police Department previously said a total of five people had died, but the number was quickly corrected to three dead, including the shooter, and six injured.
“Their injuries range from minor to life-threatening,” MPD said.
Investigators believe Rupnow used a 9mm pistol, according to the Associated Press.
Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes said a second-grade student called 911 at 10:57 a.m. Monday to report a shooting at the school.
“Let that sink in,” Barnes repeated twice at a news briefing. Police arrived within four minutes, he said. The shooting occurred in a study hall, police said.
A reunification center after the shooting was set up for parents and guardians at SSM Health Dean Medical Group, a local hospital.
MPD Chief Shon Barnes shared no more details about the victims at a press conference on Monday.
He said cops didn’t fire their weapons when they arrived at the crime scene on Monday.
“Today is a sad, sad day, not only for Madison but for our entire country,” Barnes said.
MPD provided no further information to The U.S. Sun when approached for comment.
ALCS, which has at least 390 students, asked for prayers from the community on Facebook after the shooting.
“Prayers Requested! Today, we had an active shooter incident at ALCS,” the institution wrote on Facebook.
“We are in the midst of following up. We will share information as we are able.
