Jill Tang, founder of She Rewires, hosted the SheTech Forum at the BEYOND Expo 2025 on Thursday, where she shared her social enterprise’s vision for empowering women in tech.

She Rewires is a vibrant Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) community for women dedicated to advancing female participation in those sectors. Founded in 2017, the platform connects over 70,000 members and 130 volunteer co-builders globally, fostering an open-source ecosystem that empowers women to unlock their full potential.

With a mission to reshape the status quo and build a more diverse and inclusive future for STEAM, She Rewires offers workshops, events, and forums that provide opportunities for skill development, intelligent collaboration, and leadership in tech, encouraging women to thrive and lead in the industry.

Technode sat down with Tang to talk about women in tech and more.

The interview has been edited for brevity and clarity.

Q: What has been your biggest personal takeaway from working with She Rewires?

Tang: The biggest personal takeaway has been discovering my gift and mission, which completely reshaped my value system. I shifted from a passive, object-oriented mindset to an empowered, subject-oriented one. This transformation brought an awakening from being an executor to becoming a builder, a reconstruction of capabilities from linear skills to systemic impact, and a redefinition of value from a lone warrior to a node in an energy network, maximizing collective value through community collaboration.

Q: What is the community’s biggest challenge in advancing women’s participation in the tech sector?

Tang: The biggest challenge isn’t a lack of external resources or shortage of skills or tools. It’s an internal shift in mindset for women: transforming from seeing themselves as “objects” being acted upon, to recognizing themselves as capable, valuable “subjects” of their own lives. This transformation in identity and cognition is the core driver for real action and sustained participation by women in tech.

Q: What are the community’s concrete goals over the next three years? How do you plan to expand your influence or deepen member services?

Tang: Our community has evolved from Version 1.0, which focused on “building influence,” to Version 2.0, where we are now “force-driven.” We are no longer emphasizing the community’s influence alone; instead, we are building an open-source, co-creation platform that encourages each member to become a self-driven individual, someone who can use their energy to create real value and meaningful change.

Looking forward, one of our major focuses will be co-creating actionable impact projects with enterprises, seeking a two-way journey between impact and business, and creating sustainable, scalable modes of collaboration. At the same time, we aim to work closely with SMEs (Small and Medium-sized Enterprises) and individual creators to co-develop valuable content and services. Through the collective power of the community, we hope to amplify individual values and build an ecosystem centered on co-winning, co-creation, and co-sharing.

Q: What suggestions or calls to action do you have for individuals or organizations looking to support women in tech? How can the public participate in this mission more effectively?

Tang: Supporting women in tech is not the responsibility of just a select few. It is an action everyone can take. It’s essential to recognize that diversity and inclusion are not only values but also practical pathways to sustainable growth, organizational innovation, and access to high-quality talent.

To individuals, we invite you to become force co-builders. Whether you’re a tech professional, creative, or someone still exploring your direction, you can engage with She Rewires. Bring your skills, ideas, and resources to co-create a more inclusive and future-oriented tech ecosystem.

To companies and organizations, we suggest embracing community-driven innovation. By partnering with She Rewires, you can co-create products, services, and strategies that integrate women’s perspectives and respond to differentiated user needs. Through this process, you not only elevate your brand but also unlock authentic market insights and innovation potential.

To policymakers, we urge continued support in terms of policy, funding, and institutional mechanisms. We need top-down frameworks to sustain and amplify bottom-up community energy. Structural support is key to unlocking the full potential of grassroots movements and women in technology.
