■ Mel’s skill: “Book Burning”
“Book Burn” allows Mel to breathe fire, burn inedible, thorny obstacles to clear a path or illuminate dark stages like a torch.
—By burning away thorns you can even get through blocked areas.

In the “Spider Kingdom” book world, which is overgrown with wire, there are many things that seem flammable. In narrow stages where movement is difficult, you can burn the wire in the background to create escape routes and maneuver more effectively.
However, due to its power, using Book Burn requires “Scraps of Paper” which can be obtained in the Book Worlds, so be careful not to run out.
—Try to burn the background and enemies!

—What happens when you use Book Burn on a character with a candle tail…?

■ Mel’s ability: “Paper Fly”
“Paper Fly” allows Mel to lift and levitate objects, allowing you to bridge gaps and jump over obstacles that Mel cannot eat.
—Mel catches Mono with a big gasp! You can even bridge large gaps.

In the “Unfinished Canvas” book world, which is covered with vibrant paint, there are many dangerous obstacles that Mel cannot destroy, such as thorn-covered floors.
That’s when “Paper Fly” comes in handy!
The clown-like enemies that appear in this world transform the paint-covered floors into thorns. Avoid the thorns with Paper Fly and confront the enemies that appear in the level.
—Note the color shown in the clown’s speech bubble and see how the floor changes afterward…?

■ Mono ability: “Retouch”
Mono’s new ability, “Retouch,” allows you to beautifully restore objects and parts of the world that have crumbled into a mess.
—Even a messy drawing on the wall can become a door with Retouch.

When you encounter collapsed areas blocking your path, use Mono’s “Retouch” to repair the world and move forward!
■ Which skills you can use depend on your size!?
The more Mel eats, the more power he regains, and the bigger and fiercer he becomes.
Although being bigger allows him to eat a wider variety of things, if Mel grows too big he will no longer be able to use some of the abilities available to his smaller, normal form.
—If Mel gets too big, he can still use Book Burn, but he can’t use Paper Fly.

Moreover, if Mel continues to eat paper, he will turn into a wild four-legged beast!
In this state his power reaches its maximum. However, he cannot use any skills other than eating paper, nor understand Mono’s words, and moves around uncontrollably.
If this happens, your only choice is to ‘Redo’ before Mono’s steadily dwindling stamina runs out.
Carefully consider which form of Mel is best for the situation as you progress through the picture book worlds.
– In this form, attacks are nothing to fear!
