Shotcut 25.05 was released on Sunday as the newest feature release for this non-linear, open-source video editing software.

New features in Shotcut 25.05 include adding an “Alpha Strobe” video filter, a “Freeze Frame” feature for the timeline, the ability from the File menu to re-run the filter analysis, “Add Generator” can now be found on the Timeline toolbarm new settings options intended for DeckLink use, and more.

The Shotcut video editor is also working on High Dynamic Range (HDR) video support but not yet completed. Shotcut 25.05 does bring HLG color transfer/gamma to the GPU Effects area but again for this release the HDR video support isn’t complete.

Shotcut 25.05 also updates to using the Qt 6.8.3 toolkit, SVT-AV1 3.0, MLT 7.32, and other dependency updates. Plus a variety of bug fixes throughout.
