Sony showed gamers some love just ahead of Valentine’s Day with the year’s first State of Play showcase. This presentation featured updated news for previously announced titles (Monster Hunter Wilds!) and reveals for upcoming PlayStation 5 games, big and small. Not every announcement may have captured your heart (we think it’s time to break up with Borderlands), but there were several standout games worth adding to your wishlist. You can start with these nine top trailers from the Sony State of Play event, ranked by our hype for their arrival.

Play These Upcoming Games on the PS5 and PS5 Pro

Sony PlayStation 5 (2023)

1. Onimusha: Way of the Sword

Capcom’s ongoing hot streak hopefully continues with its upcoming revival of Onimusha, a classic samurai action-adventure game. This new trailer presented a better look at the gameplay, full of exciting and brutal melee combat against supernatural enemies. We also saw the handsome new hero: historic swordsman Miyamoto Musashi. Onimusha: Way of the Sword launches in 2026.

2. Shinobi: Art of Vengeance

Sega is bringing back several classic franchises, including sidescrolling ninja platformer Shinobi. The same minds that resurrected the brilliant Streets of Rage 4 hope to recapture that gorgeous, modern-retro magic with Shinobi: Art of Vengeance. It arrives on Aug. 29.

3. Tides of Annihilation

Tides of Annihilation is your next blockbuster, Chinese-developed action-adventure game. It features an apocalyptic London full of intense magical fights against huge otherworldly invaders. The creators also promise a rich narrative. This was one of the show’s biggest surprises, and we’re curious to learn more throughout the year.

4. Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds

If the next Mario Kart isn’t your speed, consider burning rubber with Sonic the Hedgehog. This kart racer features fuzzy friends driving across imaginative tracks. It also includes new transportation methods, like the trusty hoverboard from Sonic Riders. Expect more Sega cameos, too. The game will be released later in 2025.

5. Dreams of Another

Q-Games, the developer of the PixelJunk series, has delivered unpredictable games to PlayStation for years. But Dreams of Another looks like a whole new level of trippy. This deconstructed shooter has you blasting your environment—not to destroy it but to alter your abstract, cloudy reality. The game will launch sometime in 2025.

6. Saros

With Returnal, developer Housemarque made the skillful transition from shmup to third-person shooter. Saros teases another time-looping, gun-toting, sci-fi action game. A roguelite progression lets you come back stronger each run. Saros stars actor Rahul Kohli (iZombie, Midnight Mass) and launches in 2026.

7. Darwin’s Paradox

Konami impressed gamers by reviving classic games (Metal Gear Solid Delta, Silent Hill), but the publisher is working on an original game: an octopus adventure called Darwin’s Paradox. In it, you help Darwin survive underwater or on land by hiding in ink or climbing walls one tentacle at a time. Darwin’s Paradox drops sometime later in the year.

8. MindsEye

Former Rockstar bigwig Leslie Benzies offered a new look at MindsEye, a title coming this summer. The trailer has Grand Theft Auto energy but with heaping helpings of military conspiracies and cyberpunk action. It’s a world where AI has gone bad—imagine that.

9. Directive 8020

Supermassive Games is back with another Dark Pictures anthology interactive horror movie. This time, you’ll play through a sci-fi nightmare called Directive 8080. Actress Lashana Lynch (Captain Marvel, No Time to Die) leads the cast. The game launches on Oct. 2.
