It happened during Tuesday’s game between the Indiana Fever and Los Angeles Sparks.
Cunningham was standing at her defensive end of the court while Sparks star Kelsey Plum was shooting free throws.
With just over two minutes left in the second quarter, Plum successfully made a shot from the free-throw line.
As the players reset and the Fever began their next possession, an object was thrown on court.
The bright green sex toy landed very close to Cunningham.
And the Fever player was seen stepping out the way to avoid it.
Plum came over to kick it off court and let the game continue.
Cunningham seemed to laugh off the incident with the Sparks bench.
But she posted about the incident on X after the game.
“This did not age well,” she said while quoting a previous message of hers.
The August 2 post implored fans to stop throwing sex toys onto court otherwise somebody might get hurt.
But Tuesday’s incident was the third in just the last week across the WNBA.
Sparks coach Lynne Roberts said, “I think its ridiculous, it’s dumb, it’s stupid.
“It’s also dangerous and players’ safety is No. 1. Respecting the game. All those things. I think it’s really stupid.”
Last week, a sex toy landed on court during the Atlanta Dream’s game against the Golden State Valkyries.
A man believed to be responsible was arrested in connection with the incident.
He faces charges of disorderly conduct, public indecency/indecent exposure and criminal trespass.
Another sex toy was thrown in the Chicago Sky’s game against the Golden State Valkyries on Friday.
A WNBA statement read, “The safety and well-being of everyone in our arenas is a top priority for our league.
“Objects of any kind thrown onto the court or in the seating area can pose a safety risk for players, game officials, and fans.
“In line with WNBA Arena Security Standards, any fan who intentionally throws an object onto the court will be immediately ejected and face a minimum one-year ban in addition to being subject to arrest and prosecution by local authorities.”
