The sixth edition of the report Enterprise Cloud Index (ECI) commissioned by Nutanix to the company Vanson Bourne highlights Spain as a benchmark in the adoption of hybrid multicloud models.
This study, which examines the evolution of cloud infrastructure in companies, projects significant growth in the deployment of hybrid multicloud solutions in Spain over the next three years. Spanish companies expect a 40% increase (will rise from the current 10% to 50%) in these deployments, a figure that exceeds the regional average of EMEA (with 30%) and the global average (with 35%).
Jorge Vazquezgeneral manager of Nutanix Iberia, emphasizes the importance of this advance and considers that “hybrid multicloud environments become the preferred infrastructure model due to their flexibility.”
This growth not only reflects technological adoption, but also a transformation in the Spanish business mindset towards innovation and infrastructure modernization. Companies are recognizing the benefits of hybrid multicloud, which allows for greater flexibility, scalability and operational efficiency.
Sustainability as a priority
Sustainability emerges as a crucial and differentiating factor for Spanish companies. The study indicates that 96% of respondents in Spain consider sustainability a priority for their organizations, 10 points above the EMEA average of 86%. This concern for sustainability translates into concrete actions: 88% of companies in Spain are increasing their investment in sustainable technologies, surpassing the global 77% and 73% in EMEA.
Sustainability initiatives adopted by Spanish companies include promoting teleworking to reduce the number of trips and, therefore, pollution, as well as identifying new areas for waste reduction. These actions not only benefit the environment, but also improve operational efficiency and reduce costs in the long term.
Security, a crucial factor
Security is a top concern for Spanish businesses. According to the study, 56% of respondents indicate that protection against ransomware and malware is the most important factor when choosing the right IT infrastructure. This focus on security is understandable, given that more than 90% of companies have experienced ransomware attacks in the last three years. As a result, 94% of companies plan to increase their investments in security during 2024.
This emphasis on security not only protects businesses from cyber threats, but also ensures business continuity and data integrity, which are critical in today’s digital environment.
Investment in Artificial Intelligence
AI is gaining ground in business strategies in Spain. The study reveals that 84% of companies plan to increase their investments in AI in the next twelve months. This trend reflects a growing understanding of the potential benefits of AI, ranging from process automation to improved data-driven decision-making.
However, 86% of respondents acknowledge that running AI applications presents significant challenges due to current IT infrastructure. These challenges include the need for increased processing power, data storage and connectivity, underscoring the importance of continuing to invest in advanced technology infrastructures.
Cost and data traffic challenges
Cost control is another significant challenge for Spanish companies. 90% of respondents agree that moving workloads to a different cloud environment can be costly and time-consuming. This challenge is compounded by the fact that 30% of companies say that controlling cloud costs is a “significant challenge” due to current IT infrastructure.
Application and data traffic also remains a complex challenge. 92% of companies acknowledge the difficulty of efficiently managing data traffic in multicloud environments. However, 100% of Spanish companies have migrated one or more applications to a different computing environment in the last twelve months, indicating a continuing trend towards optimising and modernising their IT infrastructures.
