Spotify is finally telling me about upcoming bangers I want to hear

I’ve been writing about Spotify since day one. Like, actual day one. I’ve been at this a while. So it surprised me this weekend when a mate pointed out the “What’s New” menu that inexplicably sits within the account menu and not on the home page.

How did I miss this and why is it there?

There I found new albums from loads of bands I’d listened to down the years. I was like “you A-holes have been tracking my listening for 16 years and this is the best you can do?”

Well now they’re doing better. The company has launched a new Upcoming Releases Hub on the home page that does exactly what it says on the tin. It’s dedicated to the new albums it knows you’re going to want to hear.

So you can actually save them without having to go searching them.

In a blog post Spotify says: “This hub provides users with a one-stop shop to explore personalised recommendations based on their listening history. Located under the Search tab on mobile, fans can easily find the “Upcoming Releases” tile to browse these personalised suggestions and the top 10 global Countdowns based on the number of pre-saves.”

“Fans can easily pre-save multiple upcoming releases directly from the hub and quickly jump into Countdown Pages to preview the tracklists, stream released singles, watch Clips, find merch, and follow the countdown right up until release.

“Then, on release day, we’ll send a push notification to all the fans who’ve pre-saved, automatically adding the music to their library.”

Well thank you very much (the Lily Allen version). Thank heavens Spotify have decided to give some love to actual music fans for a change instead of filling that feed with audiobooks and podcasts precisely none of us asked for.
