Almost ten years after its release, Stardew Valley continues to surprise its audience. While his creator, Eric Barone, called a concern, said a few months ago that he no longer wanted to devote energy to new updates before finalizing his next game, Haunted Chocolatierthe independent artist finally turned around. During the concert Stardew Valley Symphony of Seasons Organized in Seattle, the developer went on stage to announce in person a new update of the famous farm game. “After update 1.6, I told myself that I will probably not do any other … But I wanted to share a secret with you this evening: there will be another update,” he said before the public. All confirmed by a post on his social networks.

Okay, I revealed this at the concert last night and now the cat’s out of the bag, so I will confirm for everyone: There will be a Stardew Valley 1.7 update. No release date, no estimate. But it’s happening pic.twitter.com/RnNgc3ERER

What to expect from update 1.7?
For the moment, this future update remains surrounded by mystery. No concrete release or detail date on its content was shared during the announcement. However, the fact that it is numbered suggests that it will be a substantial addition, not a simple technical patch. In March 2024, version 1.6 had already considerably enriched the game experience by introducing new farms, unpublished festivals, additional crops, home renovations and even pets such as turtles. Fans therefore hope for a similar magnitude for this new extension.
Since its launch in 2016, Stardew Valley was a phenomenal success that does not run out of steam. The game has passed over 41 million copies worldwide, including 26 million only on PC. The Nintendo Switch represents 7.9 million copies, confirming the popularity of the portable console title. Few independent games can boast of such an impact, to the point of becoming a real cultural reference, both appreciated by occasional players as by enthusiasts of agricultural simulation.
The announcement of a new free content, almost a decade after the initial release, testifies to the lasting attachment of Barone to his game and the exceptional relationship he has with his community. However, this announcement has raised some concerns about Haunted Chocolatierthe new Barone project announced in 2021. The developer had declared earlier in the year that he wanted to focus all his efforts on this title. On social networks, he wanted to reassure his community: the development of update 1.7 will not hinder that of Haunted Chocolatier.
