The Steam Survey results for February showed a 0.61% drop for Linux gaming marketshare following a 20.8% increase to the Chinese use, which was yet another month of such wild swings attributed to a large influx in Simplified Chinese survey respondents. The March results for Steam Survey were published this evening and show the Linux marketshare more than recovering now that the English survey results have shot back up.

The Steam Survey results published a few minutes ago show a 0.88% increase to the Linux marketshare, taking it up to 2.33% overall. That’s a significant month-over-month increase and more so than the 2.06% seen back in January. This is a very healthy number and on a percentage basis among the best we’ve seen for the Linux gaming marketshare on Steam. With the size of the Steam userbase continuing to grow, it also bodes well in absolute terms too. The March results show Windows having a 96.1% marketshare and macOS at 1.58%.

Steam language survey results

When diving into the Steam Linux numbers specifically, around 35% of the Linux gamers appear to be running the Steam Deck or otherwise running SteamOS.

Steam Linux distribution survey results

In part due to the Steam Deck being powered by a custom AMD APU, AMD CPU marketshare among Linux gamers remains very high at around 70%.
