'Stranger Things: Tales From '85,' 'Running Point,' 'Beef' and More Are New on Netflix in April

Netflix has outdone itself this April in the new releases department. Not only are some fan-favorite shows like Running Point, starring Kate Hudson, and the award-season darling Beef returning with new episodes this month, but we’re also getting a brand-new Stranger Things series, Stranger Things: Tales From ’85, this month, on top of dozens of new movies and documentaries.

The biggest films arriving on the platform this month include Apex, a thriller starring Charlize Theron as a woman being hunted in the wilderness of Australia; Noah Kahan: Out of Body, a profile of the wildly popular singer; and the Adam Sandler-produced comedy Roommates, co-starring Sadie Sandler and Chloe East. But friends, this really is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what’s new on Netflix this month. Take a look at all the new original shows, movies and live sports that are coming soon.

New movies on Netflix in April

Untold: Chess Mates (Netflix original documentary)

Untold is Netflix’s great sports documentary series that sheds light on some of the wildest and most infamous sports stories ever. A new batch of four feature-length documentaries is rolling out now, starting with Untold: The Death & Life of Lamar Odom, which exposes the private struggles of one of the NBA’s most famous stars. That premiered on March 31, and three more will be arriving in April, including Untold: Chess Mates (April 7), about the contentious and controversial matches between chess greats Magnus Carlsen and Hans Niemann, Untold: Jail Blazers (April 14), which takes a look at the scandal-plagued Portland Trail Blazers of the early 2000s and Untold: The Shooting at Hawthorne Hill (April 21) about a former Olympic equestrian accused of trying to kill one of his riding students in 2019.

Thrash (Netflix original movie)

Bridgerton star Phoebe Dynevor stars in the new disaster movie Thrash, which is arriving to Netflix on April 10. The movie, about a coastal community decimated by a huge storm, is actually a disaster movie that’s also a monster movie. Now that the town in question has been inundated with water, they have to contend with sharks, too. The film’s cast also includes Djimon Hounsou and Whitney Peak.

Noah Kahan: Out of Body (Netflix original documentary)

Singer-songwriter (and famous New Englander) Noah Kahan gets profiled in this candid new documentary that highlights his rise to fame and showcases his life at home in Vermont with his family. Noah Kahan: Out of Body arrives to Netflix on April 13.

Roommates (Netflix original movie)

Roommates is a new Adam Sandler-produced comedy that co-stars his daughter, Sadie Sandler, and Chloe East as college roommates whose friendship takes a turn for the worse as they live together. The cast is a who’s who of comedy performers like SNL star Sarah Sherman, Natasha Lyonne, Nick Kroll, Janeane Garofalo, Carol Kane and more.

Lainey Wilson: Keepin’ Country Cool (Netflix original documentary)

The new documentary feature Lainey Wilson: Keepin’ Country Cool is a profile of country star Wilson. Directed by Amy Scott, who also helmed another great doc, Counting Crows: Have You Seen Me Lately? on HBO Max, the film looks at Wilson’s personal journey in the music business.

Charlize Theron just can’t catch a break in the new survival thriller Apex. Theron stars as a grieving woman who takes a trip through the Australian wilderness to help move on with her life, only to find herself relentlessly pursued by a brutal serial killer. Taron Egerton and Eric Bana co-star in the film which comes to Netflix on April 24.

In the new season, out on April 16, Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan star as a married couple, Josh and Lindsay, who get into a fight witnessed by another couple they work with, Ashley and Austin, played by Cailee Spaeny and Charles Melton. The situation unravels, especially once their billionaire boss gets involved.

Former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury returns to boxing for a Ring showdown with Arslanbek Makhmudov on April 11. Conor “The Destroyer” Benn and Regis “Rougarou” Prograis are co-headlining the event, which streams live from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in North London at 2 p.m. ET/11 a.m. PT. The rest of the fight card includes Jeamie Tshikeva vs. Richards Riakporhe and Frazer Clarke vs. Justis Huni.

The fight is included with all Netflix plans.
