THE Detroit Lions are cutting a three-time Pro Bowler from their roster ahead of the playoffs.
Jamal Adams appeared in two games for the Lions this season before being released.
Adams is trying to revitalize his career, being five years removed from his last Pro Bowl selection.
He spent the first three years of his career with the New York Jets before being traded to the Seattle Seahawks.
Adams spent the next four years with the team, but was plagued with injuries during his tenure in Seattle.
He was released from the team at the start of 2024, and he later signed with the Tennessee Titans.
Adams appeared in three games for the Titans before once again being released in October of 2024.
The safety spent a few months without a team before being signed by the Lions on December 1.
He only registered three tackles before being released once again.
Adams likely won’t find another team this season as there is one week left to go before the playoffs start.
His best chance at getting back on an NFL roster is likely to work his way back up through a team’s practice squad next season.
While it seems unlikely that Adams will be rostered in the playoffs, fans still shared where they want to see him land on social media.
“GB might look into him, not entirely for it or against it, but Jaire is likely out the rest of the season, we could use SOMEBODY,” one fan said.
“Gonna have the game sealing pick six for Baltimore sometime soon,” another fan said.
“Wish he never asked for a trade from the Jets. He had everything in NY,” a third fan said.
“He should just retire,” a fourth fan said.
“He coming back to the practice squad for sure,” a fifth fan said.
Week 18 schedule changes
The NFL has announced the complete schedule for Week 18 of the regular-season.
It will feature a prime time showdown between the Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings on Sunday night with everything on the line.
The winner will be crowned NFC North champions and No. 1 seed for the playoffs, while the loser of the clash on Sunday at 8.20 pm ET will have to settle for a wild card spot.
Week 18 begins with a Saturday double header on ESPN and ABC.
The Baltimore Ravens take on the Cleveland Browns at 4.30 pm ET before the Cincinnati Bengals travel to the Pittsburgh Steelers at 8 pm ET.
Eight games will be played at 1 pm ET on Sunday.
Five more will follow at 4.25 pm ET – including the Kansas City Chiefs at the Denver Broncos.
Adams’ release is slightly surprising for how banged up the Lions are on defense.
The team currently has over a dozen defensive players on Injured Reserve, and probable could have used Adams more.
It is possible that the Lions could have some players returning from injury ahead of the playoffs, sparking the release of Adams.
The Lions are in an interesting situation for the playoffs and will be desperate for a win during Week 18 to secure the No. 1 seed and a bye. The extra week would help the team get healthy ahead of a playoff matchup.
If they lose this week, the Lions will drop all the way down to the No. 5 seed.
