Mitja Rutnik / Android Authority

Subscriptions have become an increasingly integral part of our daily lives. While you may not like it, app subscription payments ensure developers a predictable stream of revenue. While I have plenty of free apps installed on my phone, I do pull out my wallet for a handful of products, especially if I require features locked behind a paywall or if I want to support the developer.

I wrote about my favorite subscriptions in a previous article, but more recently, my colleague Mitja Rutnik detailed the seven products he pays for each month. His selection included the likes of Niagara Launcher, Spotify, and Gemini, but we wanted to hear your thoughts about app subscriptions.

In the same article, we asked you how much you’re willing to spend on monthly app subscriptions. The results are as follows.

How much do readers pay for app subscriptions each month?

It’s worth noting that paying for app subscriptions remains the exception rather than the rule. However, those who do fork out can be surprisingly generous. In fact, 5.9% of the nearly 1,700 voters fork out more than $55 per month on their app subscriptions.

That’s a substantial amount, but it can be easily explained by considering some of the pricier subscriptions available, such as YouTube TV and Gemini 3 Ultra. Of course, there’s also the possibility that users are subscribing to multiple services and apps.

Nevertheless, paying for app subscriptions is, again, the exception. 52.5% of respondents do not pay a dime for app subscriptions.

Reader OldeIronsides explains that the apps they purchased were one-time payments rather than recurring transactions.

I absolutely refuse to pay a subscription for apps. Some of the best I’ve paid for are Nova Launcher, Life Bible (different translations), and Niagara Launcher. I waited too late for the $12 (I think) lifetime license and had to fork over $30 for it. It really is one of the best Android apps out there.

Still, a surprisingly large share of users are willing to pay for app subscriptions. ~18.3% of respondents pay up to $10 per month, ~13.9% between $10 and $25, and  ~9.4% spend between $25 and $55.

Do you subscribe to any apps? If you do, mention your favorites in the comments below. If not, please let us know why you avoid recurring app payments.
