It’s the season of digital recaps. The likes of Google Photos, Spotify, and YouTube Music have all issued their roundups to users, which reveal various interesting trends based on their usage. One interesting new addition to this trend is YouTube. The company has announced YouTube Recap, which rounds up users’ favorite channels, their viewing habit over the year, their interests, and more. It’s surprisingly helpful, and users seemingly think so too.

We conducted a reader poll to gauge user sentiment on the new feature. Based on the results, it seems that YouTube has a new hit on its hands.

Do you like YouTube Recap?

It’s a fairly simple question, but one that respondents completely embraced. Of the nearly 2,000 votes received on this poll, a massive 71.9% share of readers admit that they like YouTube Recap. That’s quite impressive, considering some of YouTube’s less successful annual traditions. How can we forget YouTube Rewind? The collaborative video featuring the year’s biggest creators was panned by viewers after the 2018 edition, which fast became the platform’s most disliked video ever. It was completely retired in 2020. Recap, which models itself after the successful Spotify Wrapped roundup, offers a more personal look at individuals’ YouTube highlights and has clearly won the hearts of users.

Judging by the poll results, YouTube Recap is quite the hit, even if the stats within it aren’t accurate for some.

Notably, not everyone is sold by Recap. Although nearly three-quarters of respondents were in favor of the feature, 15.5% found it distasteful, and another 12.6% didn’t care either way. Granted, these feelings could be attributed to “roundup fatigue” as almost every platform issues its particular user habit summaries this week. However, judging by comments further afield, YouTube does have a few fixes to implement ahead of next year’s edition.

On the YouTube subreddit, several users reported that their statistics are incorrect.

“OK. I am not the only one. They put an artist I have never heard about as my top 10 and car technology as my #1. (I literally don’t care about cars lol),” wrote u/Badiha.

“Mine was convinced I was into ‘wrestling game strategies’, considered it my #1 interest, because I watched a whole maybe half-dozen videos on a wrestling Let’s Play early in 2025, ignoring my many, many, MANY videos of other subjects I’ve watched,” mentioned u/EsperDerek.

In another thread, several readers highlighted the lack of interesting stats.

“…they didn’t list # of videos watched or total watch time. Lame,” wrote u/Oradi.

“I’ve never seen something stupider than making a recap and not including the total watch time. We all know you’re tracking it, damn it!” echoed u/anoid_Android101.

As for my take, I quite enjoyed YouTube Recap and found that the details included were reasonably accurate. And if you must know, I watched over 200 channels this year, I apparently love adventuring, and I enjoy watching Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 playthroughs. That sounds about right!

If you haven’t yet accessed your YouTube Recap, you can do so by opening the YouTube app on your phone, visiting your profile page, and tapping Your 2025 Recap is here! Alternatively, visit youtube.com/recap on the web.
