SUSE buys Industrial Internet of Things platform Losant

SUSA has purchased Losant, developer of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) platform of the same name. With it, SUSE expands the scope of its edge vision, from the near edge and far edge to the tiny edge. With Losant, SUSE will advance the elimination of traditional industry silos and offer an open and comprehensive process automation platform for IIoT, providing real-time information and actionable intelligence.

The transaction will expand SUSE’s edge product portfolio, focused on interoperability. It will combine device orchestration, data management and application enablement with core SUSE technologies. This joint portfolio will allow companies to connect operating systems directly to business workflows and analytics, reducing the complexity associated with IIoT adoption, with freedom from vendor lock-in, and an open, standards-aligned architecture without relying on proprietary platforms.

Losant has been recognized in the Gartner 2025 Magic Quadrant for Global Industrial IoT Platforms, and upon closing of its purchase, both its platform and team will become part of the SUSE Edge division.

Under SUSE’s plans, Losant technology will become open source, with the goal of expanding the company’s collaboration with like-minded open source communities to assess where Losant technology can accelerate interface standardization, interoperability, and process automation capabilities.

Keith Basil, Director general de SUSE Edgehas highlighted that «The acquisition of Losant transforms SUSE from an edge infrastructure provider to a leader in full-stack industrial IoT. It allows us to offer customers the part of the Edge where the digital world meets the physical world, where machines, environments and people interact in real time, and where AI can be deployed in a meaningful way to gain a better understanding of real-world processes. With Losant, we will move more quickly from infrastructure to operational outcomes, combining our portfolio of edge products and products like SUSE AI, enabling deeper collaboration with industrial partners, equipment manufacturers and open source industrial communities as the ecosystem continues to evolve.«.

Charlie Key, CEO of Losanthas pointed out for his part that «Joining forces with SUSE is the natural next step for Losant. Combining our low-code Industrial Internet of Things platform with SUSE’s more than 30 years of experience in enterprise software will provide customers with stability and interoperability, allowing us to accelerate our mission of helping IT leaders turn complex data into immediate operational value. We’re excited to bring our Tiny Edge capabilities to a much broader stage.«.
