On Wednesday, the world’s three leading EDA (Electronic Design Automation) providers—Synopsys, Cadence, and Siemens EDA—received notice from the US Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) lifting export restrictions on EDA software used for chip design in China. Back in late May, the companies had been ordered to halt exports of EDA tools and services to China. With the restriction now lifted, Chinese chip design firms can once again access advanced EDA solutions, helping them accelerate development timelines. The policy reversal may be a result of US-China trade talks in June, during which the US reportedly agreed to ease several tech-related restrictions on China. [Icsmart, in Chinese]
