A LITTLE HISTORY
Beginning in October 2024, Taco Bell gave franchisees the option of discontinuing breakfast.
The change was made with the intention of prioritizing “key drivers of growth.”
Specifically, the company wanted to give its franchisees flexibility by pushing its lunch menu and Cantina Chicken menu.
As a result, a small number of franchise stores removed their breakfast menus, while all company-owned stores retained them.
“We are known for our partnership with franchisees, and this is another example of how the brand is listening to its people, taking their feedback into account, and making changes to support the overall growth of the brand,” Taco Bell said in a statement.
“Franchisees have expressed appreciation for the gesture, saying that they feel like their needs are being heard to flex their menu to better support what their community craves, while others shared that they look forward to focusing on other dayparts like lunchtime and the new Cantina Chicken Menu.
“This isn’t the first time we’ve offered options to franchisees to streamline menus.”
Most of Taco Bell’s locations are franchised, with franchise locations accounting for more than 94% of its 7,405 U.S. restaurants.
Taco Bell stated that customers can go to its website’s store locator to see if their local restaurant still serves breakfast.
FAN REACTIONS
While the move may have been popular with some franchise owners, fans were devastated to discover that they no longer have the option of ordering breakfast at their nearby Taco Bell.
“Taco Bell taking breakfast off the menu is the WORST move they’ve ever made,” one fan wrote on X with a crying emoji.
“Nobody talk to me Taco Bell discontinued their breakfast,” said another, with three loudly crying emojis.
“I NEED MY BREAKFAST CRUNCHWRAP.”
