Target, Walmart Will Keep Selling Xbox Consoles Despite Costco’s Move

Some US retailers are removing Xbox products from sale in their stores, but that won’t be the case for either Target or Walmart.

Over the weekend, a popular post on Reddit showed a user’s local Target removing the Xbox section from its store. The post said, “The electronics manager says they will no longer carry systems, games, or accessories.”

The same manager told the Reddit user that all Target stores in the Kansas City area plan to remove Xbox products from sale. Some other users took to the comments section of the post to say they’ve seen similar in their local Target stores, and some said they hadn’t seen Xbox consoles in their local Walmart for months.

Now, Microsoft has confirmed that it won’t remove Xboxes from sale at all of Target and Walmart’s stores. In a statement to Windows Central, it said, “Target and Walmart, among other retailers, remain committed partners for Xbox consoles, accessories, and games.”

Microsoft’s statement suggests the Target store’s removal of Xbox products isn’t a wider plan from the retailer, and instead it may be a decision made for that particular location.

This all comes after Costco removed Xbox products from its website back in September citing a “business decision.” Soon after, membership-only retail chain Sam’s Club hosted a deeply discounted sale on Xbox products, leading some to believe it may also drop Microsoft’s gaming line. Sam’s Club has yet to comment on the future of the sale of Xbox products.

2025 has seen Xbox prices jump up twice in a matter of months. The Xbox Series S with 512GB of storage cost $299.99 earlier this year before moving to $379.99, and then $399.99 from early October.

The Xbox Series X with a disc drive has moved from $499.99 in April, to $599.99 for a short period, and now it’s $649.99. Microsoft’s biggest rival, Sony’s PlayStation 5 consoles, also saw a price rise this year going up by $50 per console to $549.99 for a standard console and $499.99 for the digital edition.
