The order of the tariffs unleashed by Trump from his return to the White House continues to talk and not for good, at least as far as the measure and its objectives concern. The last controversy has had Amazon as an unexpected protagonist and, more specifically, its founder. Jeff Bezos, previously accused of favoring the interests of the old new president of the United States. But everything has remained nothing.

In summary, the Trump tariff policy is demonstrating to be -Pauses of the measure to the margin- a disaster for world trade in general, for the American in particular. Proof of this is that Amazon decided to explicitly show on its platform the impact of tariffs on the final Price of some products, a decision that has been interpreted by the White House as an attack.

«This is a hostile and political act by Amazon«, Said presidential spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt during a press conference on Tuesday. According to Leavitt, Amazon’s measure seeks to undermine Trump’s administration’s commercial policy and responds to the alleged links of Bezos with the Chinese government, an accusation that, for the moment, lacks foundation.

Amazon’s response has been brief but direct: informing consumers. From the company they ensure that it is a transparency measure, since the new tariffs are significantly raising import costs especially in electronic products, clothing and household utensils. Thus, showing the tariff impact allows the buyer to understand why some prices have increased suddenly, says the company.

The conflict, in addition, occurs at a particularly delicate moment, after a public approach between Trump and Bezos -Incluid an unusual gesture as the presence of the businessman in the investiture of the president last January- The current clash shows that structural tensions between political power and great technological ones remain intact.

Leavitt also took the opportunity to lash out at the previous stage: “Amazon did not do this when the Biden administration caused the highest inflation in 40 years.” The argument, however, forgets a key difference: current tariff Trump’s brilliant tariff idea against Amazon.

After the accusations of the White House, Amazon wanted to set the controversy. In a statement sent to Political, a company spokesman confirmed that a similar proposal was considered at Amazon Haul (an experimental section for very cheap products), but flatly denied that it was approved to show the cost of prices tariffs. “This was never approved and will not happen”, Said spokesman Tim Doyle. But this reverse has not made the tension disappear at all.

Leavitt again stirred the controversy displaying a 2021 reuters report on the alleged Amazon links with the propaganda organs of the Chinese government. Although he avoided ruling on the personal relationship between Trump and Bezos, he insisted that Amazon’s gesture was “a hostile and political act.” Meanwhile, Trump’s tariff policy continues to generate global uncertainty and its impact is already noticed in the markets.

Beyond the punctual conflict, the Mollar issue remains the industrial and commercial policy of the United States, and that Trump has recovered its relocation speech of supply chains and protection of national employment, insisting that “Americans should Buy American products.” A message that, however, collides with the reality of a globalized market where even US brands depend on components manufactured abroad.
