BBC presenter and award-winning entrepreneur, Sonya Barlow, announced the 2025 list of Liverpool City Region’s Tech Climbers on Wednesday 30 April to a sold-out room of the region’s leading tech businesses and support ecosystem at One Fine Day in Liverpool city centre.
The event, attended by Liverpool’s top tech talent, brought the community together to celebrate not only the businesses that made this year’s list, but Liverpool’s growing reputation as a global hub for tech, following investment from businesses such as Kyndryl, which is set to create 1,000 jobs alone.
Following an influx of entries and nominations from across a range of industries, including health tech, edTech, medTech, green tech, and proptech, 19 businesses fought off steep competition to make the Liverpool City Region Tech Climbers list.
Another 10 made the Ones to Watch list, which highlights the up-and-coming businesses packed with growth potential.
Alongside Anna Heyes, founder of Tech Climbers, and Frankie Hutton, Tech Climbers lead, a mix of local and national ecosystem leaders, including Helen Cross of Growth Platform, Graeme Murray of Marks & Clerk, Mo Aldalou of Baltic Ventures, Matt Robinson of techUK, Matt Johnson of Form, Daniel Hayhurst of Brabners, Will Skrebels of Rathbones Wealth & Investment Management, and Ben Davies of Praetura Ventures, judged this year’s list – scoring businesses from 1-5 against the three core criteria: investability, investment and impact.
The scoring model also allowed the judges to offer special recognition to the businesses that scored the highest in each of the criteria.
Developers of diagnostic cardiac AI technology, MyCardium AI, scored the highest for innovation, data-driven energy solutions provider, Heatio, came out on top of the impact category, while Evoke Creative was allocated the most points for the team’s relentless efforts to raise investment.
