For years, the world has labeled Portugal as the ultimate “retreat”—a place for surf, sun, and remote work. But is that the whole story?

We didn’t think so. That’s why we packed our cameras and crossed the Atlantic. We spent weeks on the ground—traveling from the industrial north to the coastal capital—to film a new documentary series about the real engine humming beneath the cobbled streets.

Watch our Tech Odyssey Official Trailer

What we captured challenges the traditional tech narrative.

  1. The “Pragmatic” Hardware Anomaly In most Western ecosystems, building hardware is slow. But in cities like Porto and Braga, we captured a unique “Southern European understated pragmatism”. Our lenses documented a friction-free chain where founders take designs from university labs directly to local factories. As we note in the series, the barrier to turning a crazy concept into a physical product here is shockingly low.
  2. Global by Design: The Rule of Survival Why are Portuguese startups so aggressive about international expansion? We discovered a hard truth: It is not a choice, but a rule of survival. Because the domestic market is limited , founders here are forced to look global from day one. In our interviews, we explore how this pressure creates resilient companies—like the audio software hidden champion Sound Particles —that influence the world from quiet corners of Portugal.
  3. A Gateway Connecting Three Continents Portugal isn’t just a European entry point. Through our journey, we saw how it leverages its Age of Discovery DNA to act as a unique hub connecting Europe, Africa, and South America. We take you inside the “Unicorn Factory” in Lisbon to see how this open, diverse culture is attracting talent and capital faster than ever.

This is not just a travel vlog. It is an on-the-ground investigation into a tech ecosystem that combines quality of life with serious engineering power.

Mark your calendars: The first episode premieres on January 28.

In the upcoming series, Tech Odyssey will bring you:

  • Deep dives into the labs and incubators where science turns into revenue .
  • Candid conversations with investors, policymakers, and industry leaders defining the region’s strategy .
  • Real stories of the entrepreneurs building Europe’s next deep-tech giants.

Search and follow “TechNode” on YouTube, X, and LinkedIn—and don’t forget to connect with our founder Dr. Gang Lu’s LinkedIn account for behind-the-scenes insights.

See the side of Portugal the travel brochures missed.
