Earlier this month, I was invited to PICTFOR’s seventh annual Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Rally, hosted at the House of Commons.
The focus of the event – attended by MPs Samantha Niblett, Mims Davies and Dawn Butler – was to share the important work being done on diversity in our sector. And yet, with slow progress in recent years, and DEI cast as a political boogeyman in the US, it was abundantly clear that the tech sector has reached a critical junction for diversity initiatives across the board.
For years, the industry has been afflicted by the spectre of the ‘tech bro’, with lacklustre progress on DEI initiatives. According to Tech Talent Charter’s annual 2024 ‘Diversity in Tech’ report, women and non-binary employees account for 29% of the UK tech workforce – an increase of just 3% compared to five years ago….
