The Department of Telecommunications, India, has issued a warning related to the increasing cybercrime in the country. The department is now making people aware of the scams that are going on in the country and alert them. They have also introduced Chakshu on Sancharsaathi.gov.in to report all the fraudulent activities related to the stock market, trading, and investment.
DoT’s steps to curb scams in India
Apart from that, the Department of Telecommunications has also said that the fraudsters make fake calls by pretending to be the employees of IRDAI, LIC, and even the Income Tax Departments. If any of the people face this kind of situation then they can simply register a police complaint in 1930 and even report the issue on the Sanchar Saathi portal.
Apart from that, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) asked all the telco giants in the country including Airtel, Jio, and Vodafone Idea to run cybercrime awareness messages up to 10 times per day for the next three months. These announcements will be provided by the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (14C). The announcements aim to educate people on the digital arrest scam as well.
For those who are unaware, in the Digital Arrest scams, the scammers first pose as people from FedEx or something to tell you that you had a parcel that contains drugs and then they even bring a fake police inspector for your digital arrest. The scam ends when you give them the money they need to quash your fake case.
There are chances that in the future, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), will introduce more measures to curb the ever-increasing scams in the country. And that is pretty much needed because there are a lot of scam victims as of now that have lost money and even a lot of lives in the worst case scenarios.
