Last month, Tencent hosted a major celebration at the Hangzhou Esports Center to mark the first anniversary of its self-developed first-person shooter Delta Force. The event announced the game’s latest record of over 30 million daily active users in China and showcased its growing influence in the global FPS market through esports tournaments and offline activities.

Launched last September, Delta Force quickly stood out in the crowded shooter category with its signature “extraction shooter” and “large-scale warfare” modes. Set in the year 2035, the game casts players as elite operatives of the Global Tactical Intervention unit, deployed to the fictional region of Asara to investigate a powerful corporation’s illicit activities.

Its three main modes—Fireteam Zone (inspired by Escape from Tarkov), All-Out Warfare (32v32 battles with vehicles), and Black Hawk Down (a cinematic single-player experience)—cover a wide spectrum of player preferences, from casual shooters to hardcore enthusiasts.

To mark the anniversary, Tencent extended the in-game world into real life with immersive offline experiences across Hangzhou. The celebration included a “Delta Zone” photo point by Hangzhou’s West Lake, tactical cosplay formations on the historic Broken Bridge, and a “critical extraction point” performance under Leifeng Pagoda. The city-wide activations drew both players and residents, turning the anniversary into a festival-like event.

On the technology front, the development team adopted photogrammetry mapping techniques to scan real-world landscapes and architecture into the game. Frequent updates, such as new systems, storylines and boss encounters, have kept the gameplay fresh and maintained strong user engagement.

Tencent said it will continue to build Delta Force into a benchmark for global FPS esports by leveraging its cross-platform strategy, professional tournament ecosystem, and precision-driven operations. In the future, the game will continue to leverage technology and esports to advance the global presence of China-developed FPS titles.
