Tesla discreetly removed the Model S and Model X from its configurator in Europe. Now it is impossible to order these two brand new vehicles: only a few models in stock remain accessible to purchase. This is not a first – Tesla had already suspended orders for almost a year between 2021 and 2022 – but that does not prevent speculation.
The S and X come out of the European radar
Officially, no explanation. Unofficially, several tracks are mentioned: supply difficulties, a production that turns idling in California, or even a desire to avoid fixing prices too early in a frankly complicated context (especially because of American taxes on the batteries imported from Japan). Some believe that Tesla prefers to concentrate its resources on the North American markets, where the delivery times remain long.
But be careful not to bury the Model S and X too quickly on the European side. It is quite possible that this “disappearance” is temporary, the time to reconstruct the stocks or to smooth production after the last little overhaul of the two models, unveiled in June. After all, Tesla is customary of unforeseen breaks, and often little commented.
When they started, the Model S and the Model X were the stars of the Tesla catalog. Today, they find themselves in the “other vehicle” category in production reports, alongside Cybertruck and Semi. Not frankly rewarding. In the first half of 2025, Tesla delivered 23,275 units worldwide, against nearly 700,000 Model 3 and Y. The contrast is striking.
In recent years, the updates have been minor: room lighting here, some technical adjustments there … Nothing very exciting. And prices have tended to climb, which cooled part of the amateurs. Conversely, Tesla is growing louder and loudly by its best-sellers cars, such as the Y Model-now available in three rows in China-, which naturally cannibalize the interest in large, more expensive formats.
The manufacturer does not seem to officially want to draw a line on its high -end models. But in the absence of striking new features, S and X are figuration. So, strategic break or start of a smooth outing? The answer may come during the next configurator update. In the meantime, European amateurs will have to settle for the stock or set their sights on another brand.
