The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) has released a software update in line with a recall for 694,304 vehicles. The recall concerns a non-compliance issue with some of the vehicle’s Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) warning lights.
Affected models include select Model 3 (2017-2025), Model Y (2020-2025), and Cybertruck (2024). Tesla determined that a previous software version did not meet compliance standards for TPMS failure alerts.
Tesla said it has received no reports of accidents, injuries or deaths due to the condition, but as of Dec. 13 it noted 76 warranty claims and one field report about the problem.
Vehicles in production will receive the revised software from November 15. Owners of cars equipped with software update 2024.38.200 or later are not required to take any further action. Other owners should ensure their car has the required software fix to comply with regulations, Tesla said.
The recall highlights Tesla’s ongoing initiatives through over-the-air software updates to aggressively resolve vehicle performance issues. It’s important to note that Tesla shares are up 79.4% YTD, and up more than 141% in the last six months.
