Tesla will introduce a long wheelbase version of the popular Model Y crossover in China as early as the third quarter of this year, with an estimated starting price of around RMB 400,000 ($55,720), people with knowledge of the matter told financial media outlet CLS on Wednesday. The US automaker earlier in the day confirmed on the Chinese microblogging platform Weibo that it will launch a three-row, six-seater Model Y L this fall, as registration details for the sports utility vehicle were revealed by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). The new vehicle will measure five meters in length with a wheelbase of 3,040 millimeters, providing a more spacious interior than its current version, according to MIIT, and feature all-wheel drive with a longer driving range and upgraded interior finishes, sources said.
