Ayaneo’s latest handheld isn’t trying to be compact or subtle.

The newly announced Ayaneo Next II is a full-on giant of a gaming PC, packing a 9-inch OLED screen, high-end internals, and the kind of build that makes even the Legion Go 2 and Rog Ally look modest.

The headline feature is the 9.06-inch OLED display, running at 2400×1504 with a variable refresh rate from 60Hz all the way up to 165Hz. That alone pushes it into tablet territory, but Ayaneo pairs the display with enough hardware to actually justify it.

Inside is AMD’s new Ryzen AI Max+ 395 chip, and feeding it all is a massive 115Wh battery, one of the largest we’ve ever seen in a handheld. Ayaneo didn’t share battery life estimates and realistically, they’re not going to be “all day,” but the size gives the Next II plenty of headroom for long sessions at lower refresh rates.

To keep things responsive, Ayaneo is sticking with premium controls across the board. You get Hall effect joysticks and triggers to avoid dead zones and drift, alongside dual smart touchpads borrowed from the Ayaneo Kun. Those touchpads can be customised with gesture controls and key mapping, while the back of the device includes four rear buttons plus four more customisable buttons elsewhere for detailed, PC-style control setups.

How much will it cost?

And just like the hardware, the expected pricing isn’t small either. Ayaneo hasn’t confirmed a number yet, but given that the Kun topped out at around $1,700 fully configured, the Next II is likely to creep closer to $2,000.

The company may be experimenting with cheaper handhelds elsewhere, but the Next II shows it hasn’t lost its appetite for high-end, oversized machines. If you want a handheld PC that feels more like a portable battlestation, this one is very much that.
