Apple’s next big MacBook Pro redesign sounds like a premium play, with the base model reported to not be getting all the most tempting features.

Upgrades such as an OLED display with touch support and a thinner chassis are expected to debut on the higher-end models between late 2026 and early 2027.

So if you’re after the shiny new screen tech on day one, you’ll likely be looking at the M6 Pro or M6 Max tiers rather than the base model.

In his latest newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman claims the low-end 14-inch MacBook Pro will move to M6 toward the end of 2026 but keep today’s design for a while longer, while the OLED redesign targets the M6 Pro/M6 Max machines which are said to launch between late 2026 and early 2027.

In the near term, Apple’s roadmap brings a few steady upgrades, including MacBook Pro models with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips and a refreshed M5 MacBook Air arriving in the first half of the year.

These are all pretty expected updates, with Apple typically refreshing its MacBook Air – the brand’s current entry-level laptop – before the back to school rush begins.

An M5 and M5 Pro Mac mini are planned too, alongside M5 Max and M5 Ultra versions of Mac Studio. Those refreshes keep the line moving, but the big visual change is reserved for the later OLED Pros.

The upgrade path looks fairly clear, with those chasing OLED, touch support, and a slimmer design likely eyeing the M6 Pro or M6 Max models, while anyone focused on more affordable options can look to the M5 lineup arriving sooner.

Either way, Apple’s roadmap points to a staggered rollout that balances early access with premium pricing, depending on where your priorities fall.
