If you’re going to chill with Netflix, it has over 7,000 movies for you to watch. Some are obviously more worthwhile than others, which is why I’ve put on my streaming cap to recommend a few for the week, using metrics like popularity, ratings on IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes, and personal preference. Valentine’s Day is Saturday, and no matter what kind of relationship you’re in, Netflix has a movie to match (or you could just binge Bridgerton, but that’s neither here nor there).

Titanic

James Cameron pivoting from the sci-fi action of the Terminator franchise to Titanic was a surprise, but now we know the guy just really loves water. This movie was a massive cultural phenomenon, making huge stars out of its leads, and for good reason. It’s sweeping in scope, deftly acted, with incredible visual effects and great music. Truly a movie for everyone, whether you love romance or disaster. Sometimes they’re two sides of the same coin.

Sweet Home Alabama

The top-watched romantic comedy on Netflix right now is, surprisingly, 2002’s Sweet Home Alabama. With a plotline that launched a thousand Hallmark knock-offs, Reese Witherspoon plays a New York fashion designer who disguises her Southern roots with a new accent and classy clothes. When she has to return home to announce her engagement and divorce her estranged husband, things get complicated. It was a massive hit, despite middling reviews, and has become a classic.

Blue Is The Warmest Color

One of the most acclaimed romantic dramas of the 2010’s, Blue Is The Warmest Color took the Palme d’Or at Cannes and won raves from critics all over the world. Adapted from a French graphic novel, it tells the story of high school student Adèle wrestling with her sexuality after a chance meeting with a blue-haired art student expands her world in unexpected ways. It’s a steamy one, but brilliantly told and wonderfully acted.

  • Directors: Abdellatif Kechiche

  • Cast: Lea Seydoux, Jul Maroh, Ghalya Lacroix

  • Genre: Drama

  • Rating: NC-17

  • IMDb Rating: 7.6/10

Saiyaara

Indian movies are becoming more and more popular in the States, and for good reason. They pack all of the bombast and emotion they can into every minute of film, and that extends to their romances. Saiyaara was the top-grossing romantic film of 2025, and its soundtrack was also a smash hit. The story? It’s your typical love lost and regained saga, as a jilted young woman meets an aspiring musician, only for early-onset Alzheimer’s to transform their partnership.
