Onyx is back with another pint-sized e-reader that wants to be more than just a Kindle alternative. The Boox Palma 2 Pro  takes the company’s smartphone-sized Palma line and turns it into something much more capable.

The Palma 2 Pro will run on Android 15, giving it long-term support and access to the Google Play Store right out of the box. This is a big lift from Palma 2, which runs on Android 13.

It swaps the usual black-and-white e-ink display for a rich 6.13-inch Kaleido 3 colour display. This makes it look sharper and richer, delivering 300 PPI in black-and-white and 150 PPI in colour. You also get front lighting with adjustable warm and cool tones, plus a flush glass design that feels smoother and sturdier than the original Palma’s plastic shell.

As for the other specs, the Pro gets an upgrade to the octa-core+ BSR processor, 8GB RAM, and 128GB storage. It also includes a 16MP camera, Bluetooth 5.1, two microphones, a fingerprint sensor, as well as 5G support via a SIM card.

Just off the specs alone, the Palma 2 Pro is a huge improvement over its predecessor. It’s faster, more versatile, and feels more like a tablet than a traditional e-reader.

It is currently available to pre-order at $399.99, with orders being shipped on November 7.
