New York is still the capital of skyscrapers, but if there is a city that wants to take that title from the North American city, it is, without a doubt, Dubai. In fact, we should start calling it that, taking into account that in 2000 there was only one skyscraper and, currently, it is the city with the most skyscrapers over 300 meters. The imposing Burj Khalifa is the star of a skyline that not only holds the record for skyscrapers, but also for very tall hotels.
And soon what will be the tallest hotel in the world will be inaugurated: an impressive glass building called Ciel Tower.
Dubai boasts skyscraper hotels. If there is anything in Dubai, it is skyscrapers. Luxury, too. It doesn’t matter if they are built by Mercedes-Benz, if they have a minimum width, if they are an extravagance signed by Bugatti or a copy of Big Ben. They all have in common that they measure more than 300 meters and that luxury is predominant. In fact, the city currently has seven of the ten tallest hotels in the world. And they will soon add one more to those positions of honor with their new mega-construction: the Ciel Tower.
Torre Sky. In 2018, plans began to take shape and construction of the foundations began shortly after for what will be the new tallest hotel in the world. When we talk about “tallest hotel” we are not referring to the highest hotel, since there are hotels that are located in mixed-use buildings, but to the building exclusively intended for hotel practice.
And it will be really huge. When completed, it will have a height of 365 meters and capacity for more than 1,000 rooms spread over 82 floors. The elevators in this hotel must be truly crazy and the façade of the skyscraper will be completely made of glass thanks to windows that will allow the building to be confused with the sky.
A pool to match. The equipment will be as expected, with three restaurants, a spa, an observatory in the upper area, a garden and outdoor space on the 76th floor and, in the same area, an infinity pool that will allow you to see a panoramic view of the city. It will be the tallest infinity pool in Dubai.
Luxury, of course. Those responsible for the project are the hotel chain The First Group, and its CEO already establishes a target audience for this hotel. “We are delighted to bring Ciel to the Dubai skyline as it is a project that will redefine luxury hospitality and showcase the best the city has to offer,” comments Rob Burns. And it is no wonder considering what we have mentioned about the pool and the outdoor spaces, as well as what we can see from the rooms and common areas.
A very detailed timeline. The hotel was going to open its doors at the end of 2023, but the group’s CEO himself acknowledged that the COVID-19 pandemic took its toll and that, after a delay to 2024, the Ciel Tower will finally open its doors in 2025.
And a great detail is the one we left just above these lines. In the lower area of their website, we can see a carousel of images divided by dates and with a legend that allows us to know the ins and outs of the development, such as when the plans were delivered, how the foundations were laid and, ultimately, a glimpse to the complete work of the hotel for the most curious.
