If you have opened your social networks this weekend and your algorithm tends to show you video games, you have surely passed a controversial extract ofAssassin’s Creed Shadows. The new opus of the cult franchise is preparing (slowly but surely) its launch for March 20, 2025 and therefore begins to accelerate its promotion. Ubisoft therefore took care to share some new gameplay records without knowing that the title was still going to suffer from a bad controversy. Among all the sequences thatAssassin’s Creed Shadows To offer, the studio decided to present a secondary quest: certainly to avoid spoiling the main narrative frame. Unfortunately, the choice was carried out on a mission to the vocal cast, to say the least … daring.

A weekend to change everything
When the extract in question, French spectators were quick to be disillusioned. We discover the main character, Nae, chatting with Tokubei, the secondary character of an annex quest. Nothing very serious so far. But to everyone’s surprise, the conversation turned into a parody in the first word pronounced by Tokubei. The difference in your between the two interlocutors is so improbable that it is even comical.
However, Internet users quickly understood where this dissonance came from. Rather than hiring a dubbing actor to take care of this secondary voice, Ubisoft called on the youtuber specialist in Japan: Louis-San. It didn’t take any more for the anger of the fans to spill on the networks throughout the weekend. SinceAssassin’s Creed : Shadows Was repeatedly rejected in order to be perfected, how can we explain that such a casting error could have slipped into the game two months from the release? Faced with the scale of the scandal, the content creator was quick to post an explanatory video.

He explains that he was debauched by the studio to try the dubbing of a “tertiary character and without great importance“. But experience has proven to be more tedious than expected. In the absence of images of the game or real directions on his script, Louis-San had no choice but to improvise. He explains that he sent a message to the teams to ask them to delete his passage, but he finally found himself in a full-fledged teaser. That the players reassure themselves: This whole story ended up pushing Ubisoft to return to its decision. The character of Tokubei will be redoubled and no Star-Talent will be included in the final game.
It only remains to hope that this unexpected story will learn a good lesson in game and cinema studios. It is time to honor the French dubbing industry at its fair value rather than offering positions to celebrities.
