House of the Dragon continues its journey on our screens. The spin-off series of Game of Thrones has every intention of becoming as legendary as its predecessor, even if it takes care to keep its distance from the narrative elements introduced in the adaptation of the Iron Throne. The narrative takes place several decades before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen and intends to tell how the most powerful house in Westeros precipitated her fall. If the winks to GOT are quite minimal, Episode 3 introduced un easter egg which did not go unnoticed. The director took advantage of an interview with Mashable to confirm a popular theory among spectators.
The assassination attempt orchestrated by the Greens confirms the hatred between the two clans. Each therefore places their pawns on the chessboard and ensures they have the alliances necessary for their victory. For Rhaenyra, it is thus a question of negotiating with the powerful houses of Westeros and of using her arguments to consolidate her position on the throne. The daughter of Viserys has a major ace up her sleeve, more dragons than her rivals. But the queen is aware that she must protect the most vulnerable creatures, in the event that Dragonstone falls into the hands of Aegon and his troops. Young Rhaena therefore leaves with two juvenile dragons and four eggs towards the Vale of Arryn. The colors of the latter are obviously reminiscent of those offered to Daenerys later. There is a good reason for this, according to the director of this third episode. Geeta Vasant Patel explains: “These are Daenerys’ eggs. We are all big fans of Game of Thrones, it was very exciting to shoot this scene.”
A continuity problem?
The presence of eggs – they will later become Drogon, Viserion and Rhaegal — questions the story told by George RR Martin in his works. According to the author’s writings, they were stolen during the reign of Jaehaerys I by a noblewoman named Elissa Farman and close to Princess Rhaena Targaryen (not the one played by Phoebe Campbell). She used these three eggs to finance her travels after the latter refused to act on the purchase of a ship. If what will happen to the eggs remains a mystery before the beginning of the saga of the Iron Thronewe know that they are at Braavos when Elissa Farman sells them to the highest bidder.
In Fire & Firefrom which the series draws its plot, we learn that the dragoness Syrax gave birth to several eggs. One of them is destined to become Point du Jour and be ridden by Rhaena (from House of the Dragon). In theory, the remaining three eggs cannot be Daenerys’ssince they were stolen decades earlier. The director’s statements therefore confirm a major change in the mythology.
The series could thus explain how the last three eggs make their way to Essos. Rhaenyra invites her daughter-in-law to go to Pentos, one of the cities on the continent, in the event that things turn sour. It is probably at this moment that The plot of House of the Dragon will be similar to that of Game of Thrones. This is especially true since the Black Queen insists on the importance of the cargo for the preservation of the Targaryen dynasty.
The Dance of the Dragons must mark the disappearance of a large majority of these creatures.Point du Jour will be one of the last dragons to die out. Viewers can look forward to seeing the narration of House of the Dragon explore new lands, gaining in scope as the civil war progresses. So join us next week on Max to find out if and how this part will be addressed by the narration. There is still five episodes to discoverso much opportunity to leave to the adaptation of Fire & Fire the care to surprise his audience.
