The European Commission He has announced one investment of 1.3 billion euros in the development of technologies considered critical for the EUwith the aim of contributing to its sovereignty technology. The investment will be made within the framework of the Europe Digital 2025-2027 program.
The work collected in the program focuses on the deployment of AI and its adoption by companies and public administrations, as well as in the cloud and data, cybercrafts and the acquisition of digital skills.
Among its main priorities are the improvement of the availability and accessibility of generative applications in different sectors, including health and care. The financing available in this case will focus on the tests of inverse environments (virtual worlds), the implementation of the AI law and the deployment of common and efficient data spaces. These measures are considered as keys to the implementation of AI factories for the development of generative models for companies and public sector.
In addition, the investment aims to support European Digital Innovation Hubs (EDIHS), a Hubs network that offers both companies and public sector entities access to experience and technologies test, in addition to advice, training and skills for the adoption of the latest technologies.
With the investment, it will also delve into the development of the Destination Earth initiative, which aims to develop a digital model of the Earth, with the aim of creating a digital model of the Earth to boost climate adaptation and disaster risk management. Specifically, the financing that is destined for this initiative will focus on the development of a more powerful model than the current one, which more researchers can access.
On the other hand, the investment also plans to support the development of cybercraft in the EU, through cybersecurity solutions such as the EU cybersecurity reserve, focused on improving resilience and online safety of critical infrastructure, such as hospitals and submarine cables of communications.
Likewise, the European Commission also has as its end with this announcement the development of the capacity of institutions in training and education in digital skills, to improve and attract talent, but also to improve the advanced skills of European workers.
A part of the investment will also be allocated to facilitate the deployment and creation of the architecture of the EU digital identity wallet, as well as the European confidence infrastructure and its promotion by the Member States. It will also serve to stimulate the transformation of the public sector, for which efficient, interoperable and high quality digital public services will be developed.
