The iPad Mini might be about to get the glow-up fans have been asking for since, well, forever.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is reportedly planning to introduce OLED displays to more of its devices, with the iPad Mini potentially being next in line as soon as 2026.
It’s a big deal for Apple’s smallest tablet. The current Mini still uses an LCD panel, but OLED would deliver deeper blacks, better contrast, and brighter, punchier colours. It is the same display tech found on the latest iPad Pro, the best iPhones, and the Apple Watch.
A price bump isn’t so exciting
Gurman reports that the iPad Mini’s OLED upgrade could come with a price bump of up to $100, reflecting the higher manufacturing costs that come with OLED production. If accurate, this would mark the first major display overhaul for the Mini in years and a shift that brings it closer in line with Apple’s high-end tablets.
The move is part of Apple’s broader plan to roll out OLED across its lineup. According to the report, the MacBook Air and iPad Air are also on the roadmap, but they’ll have to wait a bit longer – likely several years before getting the same treatment. Gurman says an OLED-equipped MacBook Air probably won’t arrive before 2028, while the iPad Air upgrade is expected to follow later.

Apple’s OLED strategy doesn’t stop at tablets, either. Gurman also hints that a touchscreen MacBook Pro with an OLED panel could arrive by late 2026 or early 2027, marking another major step in Apple’s slow but steady transition away from LCD and mini-LED displays.
For the iPad Mini, though, this could finally be the upgrade that makes it feel truly premium again – a compact device with flagship-level visuals. If the reports are accurate, the wait for a brighter, bolder Mini might finally be coming to an end.
Opinion
Yes, please!
The iPad Mini is wonderful tablet for watching movies and TV shows on, but the screen pales in comparison to the iPhone in my pocket. An OLED Mini with the ability to properly playback HDR content would be an instant upgrade for me.
