The Lord of the Rings series experiences major progress

It’s the end of filming! A few months after its launch, production of the Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power season 3 has just concluded according to information shared by Prime Video. To celebrate this major step forward, which suggests that the broadcast will take place next year, the platform invites a new recruit to speak. And not just any recruit, since Vecna joins the cast for this new chapter.

No, a crossover between Hawkins and Middle Earth is not on the agenda for the coming months. Jamie Campbell Bower, who lends his features to the big villain of Stranger Thingswill play here a character from Tolkien’s imagination. If the creators jealously guard the name of the protagonist, some already see in the British actor the perfect candidate to play a character who is painfully awaited by fans of the mythology of the Lord of the Rings. Will Celeborn, played by Marton Csokas in Peter Jackson’s trilogy, finally make his entrance? And if so, how will the narrative navigate this data?

Finally Celeborn?

This was one of the sticking points surrounding the second season of Rings of power. In episode 7, while a prisoner of Adar and his army, Galadriel exchanged a tender kiss with her friend and ally Elrond. Nothing too surprising for a series, romance is often an essential component of epic fantasy. It adds dramatic tension, amplifies the links that unite the characters. Except that, in Tolkien’s mythology, this kiss is a priori impossible. Before the first rings are even forged, in canon, Galadriel is married to Celeborn. Until now, the Prime Video series has completely eclipsed this fact to maintain the mystery concerning his feelings towards Sauron or Elrond.

Season 3 could be an opportunity for the creators to hang up their series with the lore, and thus calm the ardor of certain spectators. On the other hand, in Tolkien’s texts, Celeborn does not play a major role in the fight against Sauron. The possibility of seeing an actor of Bowers’ caliber portraying another character is therefore important. We will probably have to wait a few months to get the end of the story.

We can hope that the first images and plot elements will be shared over the coming months to prepare for the return of the series on which Prime Video is still banking heavily. Announced as one of the most expensive series in history, The Rings of Power nevertheless experiences difficulty finding its audience. Ratings for season 2 were particularly disappointing, but the company has spent too much to back down now. So see you probably next summer to find out if season 3 raises the bar…
