This week, the revelations keep coming for the Disney trading card game. Ravensburger took advantage of its presence at the London Toy Fair to chart the future of Lorcana. In addition to first information regarding the ninth expansion – scheduled for the third quarter of this year – the TCG publisher has launched the promotion of its next set in full swing. The seventh chapter, entitled The Island of Archaziawill appear on the shelves of toy stores and specialized boutiques during the month of March. A visual shared during Toy Fair made it possible to identify certain characters, such as Alice, Mulan, Mushu or even Pongo and his Dalmatian puppies.
More Disney Lorcana is not going to rely on its characters to surprise the players this time. Today, the presentation of cards from the new starter decks – Iago and Jafar, Beauty and The Beast – lifts the veil on new mechanics which already promise to shake up the games.
A new kind of card and more
The Island of Archazia promises to be a set to watch very closely, for players and collectors alike. The content of the decks – presented by promotional images – finally confirms the existence of dual ink cards. For the first time, Disney heroes will be able to benefit from the attributes of different types of Inks. Beauty and the Beast, for example, will feature both Ruby and Sapphire Inks. Jafar will offer a mix of Amethyst and Steel Inks. It is already possible to predict big changes in the composition of competitive decks, since the existence of double cards drastically increases the number of possible strategic combinations.
Iago’s new map does not fit into this pattern but is no less interesting. Indeed, this card marks the introduction of a new keyword: Vanish (which will certainly be translated as Disappearance in French). Everything suggests that this will be applied to new cards deemed too powerful. The effect reads: “When an opponent singles this character out for an action, banish them.”
In this case, Iago displays high statistics as well as the Evasive status despite a rather low summoning cost. To avoid making this bird of misfortune an unbeatable juggernaut, the Disappearance keyword allows you to get rid of it with a simple swipe of a card like “Light the fuses!“. These two starter decks will therefore make perfect training kits to familiarize yourself with the new mechanics of Disney Lorcana. As a reminder, the products of the extension The Island of Archazia will be available from next March, at a date still unknown.
