Offered at a Price of 199 €, this new headset aims to appeal to athletes and active users. Design and comfort
From the first glance, the OpenRun Pro 2 displays a sleek and sporty design. Its shape memory nickel and titanium alloy structure makes it both light (29 grams) and robust. The headphones sit comfortably in front of the ears, leaving the ear canal completely free. Its flexible and lightweight hoop (which comes in two sizes, normal and small) is quickly forgotten and accepts deformations before returning to its initial state without difficulty.
The rear headband adapts well to the shape of the head without exerting excessive pressure. Even during sudden movements or intense sporting activities, the helmet stays in place. Plus, its IP55 waterproof rating makes it sweat and splash resistant. Another good point.
Sound performance
Bone Conduction has often been criticized for its lack of bass. Shokz worked on this point with the Pro 2 by integrating Shokz DualPitchT technology. Result: the bass is significantly more present without sacrificing the clarity of the treble and midrange. How does it work? Open speakers (air conduction) exclusively diffuse the bass. This improves quality but also reduces vibrations, which some found annoying on other Shokz models, especially at high volume.
The sound is balanced and pleasant, ideal for listening to music while remaining aware of your surroundings. Musical instruments, like drums, and vocals have more depth. This last detail is particularly pleasant for listening to a podcast or an audio book. An equalizer is available in the Shokz smartphone app to adjust the sound of the headphones, as well as other updates and adjustments.
However, in noisy environments, the headset shows its limits, and it can be difficult to concentrate on your music or a call. However, in this area, it does neither better nor worse than other headphones without noise reduction.
Features and autonomy
The Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 has well-positioned physical buttons for controlling volume, changing tracks, or answering calls. Bluetooth 5.3 connection ensures stable range and low latency.
In terms of battery life, the headphones offer up to 10-12 hours of listening time on a single charge, which is quite respectable. Plus, the quick charge feature allows you to recover 1.5 hours of use in just 5 minutes, which is very handy when you’re in a hurry (which is almost always). Note that Shokz has no longer opted for a proprietary port, but for a standard USB-C port. That’s always one less cable to manage.
App Shokz
The dedicated Shokz app allows you to personalize the audio experience with different equalization modes. It also offers firmware updates to improve the performance of the headset. The interface is simple and intuitive, even if the options remain quite basic.
