Former Pittsburgh Pirates closer Jason Grilli, who has been retired since 2017, posted a message on Instagram.
The 48-year-old shared that he brought his son to watch the Pirates play against the Washington Nationals at PNC Park.
Grilli revealed that he didn’t have to pay for the two tickets as he used a “Lifetime Pass” for himself and his son to be able to witness superstar Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes up close.
He also shared a picture of his special gold ticket and his view at the MLB game.
“Used the lifetime pass and the golden ticket today to watch Paul Skenes take the mound at PNC with my son. Moments like this hit different—baseball, legacy, and passing it on to the next generation,” Grilli captioned the post.
Grilli and his son got to see Skenes’ stellar play as he pitched six innings and racked up six strikeouts while allowing just one earned run.
The 2013 All-Star Grilli and his son were able to take in the game for free since he was a 15-year veteran in the MLB.
The MLB LifeTime Pass is gold and is given to veterans with at least eight years of service time.
It allows the player, along with a guest, entry to any regular-season MLB game at no charge.
The player can simply go to a ticket counter at an MLB stadium and receive the best seats available for a game.
Full-time MLB front office staff members can also get the Lifetime Pass, but only after 25 years of service.
Grilli was the fourth overall pick in 1997 and helped the Pirates’ pitching staff during their early-2010s success.
He was a key player of the Pirates’ 2013 playoff team that snapped the franchise’s 20-year postseason drought.
During his career, Grilli played for at least nine different MLB teams.
He finished his career with a 4.22 ERA and 79 saves.
