Île-de-France Mobilités had promised us a quick return to normal for the metro ticket. After the frenzy of the Olympic Games, the Price of Parisian transport tickets was intended to go down. Finally, it offers itself a new increasethis time under the guise of good news. Let’s take stock.
A single ticket, but no more advantageous
The information comes from our colleagues at Parisian, and it risks provoking the anger of the people of the Paris region. From January 2025, the metro ticket will give way to a single transport ticketvalid on the entire Île-de-France Mobilités network. Whatever the distance and area traveled, the time has come for simplification. Enough to help out the four million tourists and occasional travelers not having yet opted for a Navigo package.
Described as “ticketing revolution” by the president of the region Valérie Pécresse, the decision aims to drastically simplify the offer on the Ile-de-France transport network. Currently, it is necessary to deal with a single ticket for Paris intramuros, and a slew of prices for suburban destinations, whose prices change according to the connections and the number of stations traveled.
For residents outside the city, the offer is therefore intended to be advantageous: the price of OD tickets (for Origin-Destination) varies between €3.20 and €5. The offer praised by Valérie Pécresse will soon propose two distinct types of tickets, sold at a fixed price regardless of the zone and the chosen route: a ticket for €2.50, valid on RER, metro and Transilienall destinations combined, and a €2 ticket, valid on buses and trams.
Two fixed price tickets, but no airport discounts
The move to a single rate of €2.50 therefore promises to pave the way for a Greater Paris unifiedeasier to access. On the other hand, for intramural travelers, it’s a cold shower: the T+ ticket is currently sold for €2.15 per unit, and up to €1.73 per book of 10. The single fare therefore marks a increase of 35 cents by displacement.
One of the arguments in favor of this single fare could have been imposed on Paris > Airports tickets. For the moment, it is necessary to count between €10.33 and €16.60 to reach Orly or Roissy via the IDFM rail network. Too bad for tourists, this will not be the case. With the exception of the Roissybus (sold for €16.60), all airport shuttles are seeing their prices increase.
Only one advantage for the Freedom+
There had to be an argument to put forward in this great upheaval with the air of hidden inflation. Holders of a Liberté+ pass will now be able to move everywhere in Parisand benefit from the most advantageous rates on their journeys. A ticket at €2.50 will thus be billed at €1.99 to holders of the Liberté + pass. The bus-tram ticket at €2 will cost €1.60 if paid via a Liberté+ pass.
