OPPO is back with a bang. A complex problem related to patents had the Chinese manufacturer’s high-end out of combat in Europe, but the Find X8 Pro is proof that they are back. A phone that arrives with top-level specifications, without fear of any of its direct rivals.
At WorldOfSoftware we have been able to test the OPPO Find X8 Pro in one of its preliminary versions for a few days. The full review with the final unit will be out in a few days, but we are already quite clear about what will make this phone shine.

Advice offered by the brand
A peculiar design and a brutal set of hardware
The design of the OPPO Find X8 Pro is very characteristic. Its rear part is starred by a huge camera modulealthough it does not stand out as much as it may seem in photos. This is partly because the sensors are not gigantic, although they are not lacking in muscle.

The feeling in hand is that of a very premium phonealthough the feel of the glass has not convinced me. In my case, I prefer high, more matte treatments that do not allow the finger to slide as much along the back. Despite this, the manufacturing quality is outstanding.
If we turn it around, we have a well-used front, although it is below 90% screen-to-bezel ratio. I have to say that in photographs and renders it looked more spectacular, although I won’t be the one to complain that the bezels aren’t a few millimeters narrower.
The screen has a very slight curvature which does not affect at all when interacting with it. In my personal case, I prefer completely flat panels since they are even more comfortable, although I have not had any problems with this proposal.
On the sides, we find the two surprises that we will detail in the review: an Alert Slider inherited from OnePlus and a camera control button inherited from the iPhone 16 Pro. The buttons do exactly what you are thinking, and they leave us with the same sensations as in other phones.
The button for sound/silent modes is great. The camera button… not so much
The Alert Slider is great, the best way to switch between sound and silent modes without even having to unlock your phone. It is an evolution of the classic volume switch that Apple killed on its iPhones and, in this case, the student has surpassed the teacher.

The camera control, which I already criticized quite a bit on the iPhone, is even more problematic due to its position. It is neither comfortable nor faster than touching the screen itself except in one scenario: opening the camera app quickly.
Where there is not even half a complaint is in the hardware section. I really wanted to get my hands on MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400, a head-on blow to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite. In the test unit it has not been possible to run benchmarks – we can run them in the review unit – but I can already tell that this mobile flies.
The screen is outstanding, the battery is fireprooffast charging more than enough… This mobile is proof of the point that Android is reaching at the hardware level. You don’t need anything else to stand out.
The software is ColorOS 15, based on Android 15. It is not my favorite ROM, since I don’t quite fall in love with its aesthetics. Despite this, there is integration with the automatic Material You themes, and the ROM does not lack anything in terms of functionality. AI is discreetly integrated into apps such as the voice recorder or the gallery app, in which we can eliminate objects, reflections and improve our images in a quite surprising way.
Testing the OPPO Find X8 Pro camera in Paris
The cameras on the OPPO Find X8 Pro aim to be very, very fun. In our case, we had the opportunity to analyze their cameras in a privileged environment: Paris.
We talk about a four sensor configuration with wide angle, ultra wide angle and double telephoto lens of three and six magnifications, respectively. In addition, it comes with some filters that emulate analog photography. I’m not usually a big fan of filters on JPEG images but, in particular, they look very good on this phone.
This is not a final unit, so it’s too early to say anything about your camera. However, with what I have been able to test, I observe that the dynamic range is notable, the images have a lot of personality, and the main sin I see is a over-processing and aggressive noise removal. OPPO has everything to correct this in the final unit, although I have some suspicions that – like most of its rivals – the overprocessing will not be so easy to eliminate.
Without a doubt, one of the most balanced options in 2024
The OPPO Find X8 Pro has everything to become one of the Android of the year. Don’t be prejudiced: its MediaTek processor is not only on par with the Snapdragon 8 Elite, it also practically competes with the Apple A18 Bionic.
Camera, screen, battery… all the key elements in a high-end phone seem to border on outstanding in these first impressions, pending confirmation of the final behavior in the analysis version.
