If you’re serious enough about home cinema to have a room dedicated to watching movies you really ought to have a projector in it – and the Xgimi Titan Noir Max should fit nicely.

With its four-legged design and front grille it looks like it would fit into an ordinary living room, but make no mistake, the Xgimi Titan Noir Max is a serious bit of kit. As well as projecting your movies in 4K it has a dynamic iris system that gives it extra control over the brightness, and with a contrast ratio of 10,000:1 (that’s double what you get from the Nebula X1) it should cope admirably with scenes that demand extremes of both light and dark.

Projectors often run pretty hot, so Xgimi has re-engineered the DMD architecture inside the Titan Noir Max to keep the temperature in check, which should allow it to maintain brightness levels and make sure the projector lasts as long as possible. That’s especially important considering this thing isn’t expected to come cheap.

The Titan Noir Max doesn’t have a lounge-friendly operating system like Google TV built in, so you’ll have to plug in your own source, and while Xgimi hasn’t shared full connectivity details yet it would be a surprise if it didn’t come with the necessary HDMI sockets to connect a soundbar as well as a streamer or games console of your choice.

It does, however, come with motorised zoom and horizontal and vertical lens shift, so you can be sure to get the picture looking just right on your screen (please don’t just use a white wall for a projector like this or the home cinema gods will be very disappointed).

There’s no price info available for the Xgimi Titan Noir Max yet, but considering the Xgimi Horizon 20 Max costs $2999/£2599 and the Titan is $3999/£3499, you can probably expect the Titan Noir Max to fall somewhere in between. We’ll find out for sure when it becomes available for pre-order in the next few months.
