When we first reviewed the WF-1000XM5, we gave them a much deserved five-stars as they represented a big upgrade on the impressive WF-1000XM4.
For those who don’t like the feeling of earbuds pushing into their ear, Sony has been listening to your concernes. With this model they’ve made the earbuds lighter in weight and smaller in size, so they can fit a wider range of ears without causing too much undue pressure in your ear canal. We found the fit and comfort levels to be better than before.

They laden with features, making them some of the smartest wireless earbuds on the market. From their Service link features that offer quicker access to your favourite streaming services, to gesture controls and its Adaptive Sound Control feature that can adapt its noise-cancelling features depending on where you are, these offer an array of convenient features for everyday use.
The noise-cancellation is excellent. Perhaps not quite top tier anymore with the likes of Bose and Technics on the scene, but still more than capable of clearing out a substantial amount of noise; better at suppressing people’s voices with higher frequencies dulled and wind noise more effectively combatted. They are excellent at making the world feel quiet.
And of course there’s the music. With a better balance (i.e. less bass heavy) than the previous model, more clarity and detailed, as well as better treble performance; the Sony WF-1000XM5 offer an excellent sound across a range of genres. As an all-round pair of headphones, these are right up there with the best.
Which means that when a deal arrived for them, we’d absolutely recommend them. They were greta at their original price of £259, and at £179 they’re a deal that’s not to be missed if you’re looking to upgrade from an older pair.
