We awarded the Tapo D235 4.5 stars when we reviewed it in 2024, claiming that it might be the “perfect smart doorbell”.
There are plenty fo reasons as to why we came to that recommendations. The app is excellent, walking you through the initial installation of the doorbell (which is quite big, by the way); allowing you access to the camera widget (if you’re using the Android app) to give a regular snapshot of what’s happening outside your door.
It’s also easy to filter any recordings in the app based on what the Tapo sees, whether that’s a person or a vehicle.
Perhaps the niftiest part of the Tapo D235’s performance is its AI detection features. It can spot movement, understand the difference between a pet, a person, vehicles or even packages that have been left in front of your door.
