It is a small revolution in the world of electric bike. In 2024, more than 565,000 electric bikes were sold in France. Almost all of them are based on the same technology: lithium-ion batteries, imported from Asia and omnipresent for over ten years.
But behind their success, the major risk is that these batteries are flammable, sometimes explosive, and regularly make the headlines for domestic or urban fires. In New York, 465 fire starts were identified between 2019 and 2023. In France, no official base counts claims, but firefighters are ringing the alarm.
For anodian, a young Vendée shoot founded by Arnaud Malrin, to continue with lithium-ion, it is to ignore a very real danger. After tests of resistance carried out this summer, the brand made an unprecedented decision by banishing the lithium-ion of its bikes, at all costs.
A world premiere
The alternative is radical, but visionary by replacing the battery with hybrid supercapacitors. A technology never applied to electric bike, fruit of three years of R&D internally. The benefits are more than ateressant:
- No risk of fire, even in the event of shock or overload,
- Complete recharging in 25 minutes (80 % in 15 min),
- Lifespan ten times greater than that of a lithium battery,
- Autonomy equivalent to current models,
- 10 year warranty.
These supercapacitors store energy in an electrostatically, without chemical reaction, thus removing the main danger factor. It is a technological rupture, but also ecological, because they do not require intensive extraction of rare metals or distant imports.
Hybrid 2, showcase of a new standard
The first model to take this technology, the Hybrid 2, will be launched soon. A true industrial showcase, he must convince actors in the sector that another way is possible, safer, more sober and more durable. With him, Anod hopes to become the reference French supplier in lithium-ion engines.
Designed and assembled in Vendée, the Hybrid 2 anod is distinguished by an entirely redesigned architecture, rid of the constraints and risks linked to lithium-ion batteries. Instead, Anod has integrated hybrid supercapacitors that guarantee zero fire risk, no thermal runaway and resistance to extreme temperatures, –20 ° C to +60 ° C. This unprecedented technology allows an ultra -fast recharging of 80 % energy in just 15 minutes, 100 % in 25 minutes, all for modular autonomy according to three assistance modes, up to 100 km in eco mode.
Thanks to a powerful engine in the rear wheel (60 nm of torque, 1000 W in peak) and a transmission by belt without maintenance or adjustment, the bike combines performance and simplicity. Its controlled weight of 21 kg, its aluminum frame guaranteed for life and its adjustable geometry (from 1.60 m to 1.95 m) provide universal comfort.
In terms of use, everything has been thought of for peace of mind since there is no part sensitive to theft, an energy recovery system at the braking, a lifespan ten times higher than that of a conventional electric bicycle (up to 180,000 km), and an application connected with integrated GPS, or an intelligent anti -theft and predictive maintenance.
The Hybrid 2 anod will be offered at € 2,990, it is positioned as the safest and most sustainable electric bike on the market.
“We want to prove that we can produce a more reliable technology in France, without dependence on Asia, and especially without putting users in danger.”Underlines Arnaud Malrin.
In the context of energy transition and industrial sovereignty, anod’s bet resonates hard. While cars or scooters are also looking to secure their batteries, this innovation opens a radically new path. If it keeps its promises, it could well redefine the future of electric bicycle, and beyond, that of all light mobility.
