On the hunt for a stellar mid-range phone around the $500 mark? There’s now an extra contender in the ring.

With the Pixel 9a being the latest mainline smartphone to enter the mid-range arena, it’s only fair that it’s getting a ton of attention right now by folks who are looking to upgrade from much older devices. However, the latest deal from Samsung could be about to steal Google’s thunder.

If you make the trip over to Amazon right now, you’ll spot that instead of paying the previous price of $649.99, the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE will only set you back $499.99 at the checkout. That’s practically the same going rate as the $499 RRP of the Pixel 9a, and there are a few areas in which it exceeds Google’s handset.

The premium feeling Samsung Galaxy S24 FE is now down to the same price range as the Pixel 9a, making it a tempting buy for folks who want a high-end smartphone on a budget.

The one area where the Galaxy S24 FE has a serious leg up on the competition is in build quality. In order to meet mid-range prices, it’s common for phones of this ilk to use a plastic chassis. This is not the case with Samsung however.

Trusted Reviews’ Mobiles Editor, Lewis Parker detailed in his hands-on with the device: “[the Galaxy S24 FE sports] the same aluminium frame and glass rear as its premium brethren, and IP68 dust and water protection also makes a welcome return. The glass is tougher this year, sporting Gorilla Glass Victus+ on the screen.”

Having that glass rear makes the S24 FE feel a lot more premium than it actually is, so you won’t feel as if you’re using a downgraded phone from day to day. There’s also plenty of power under the hood thanks to the Samsung Exynos 2400e processor.

According to Samsung, this chipset provides more processing parity with the Galaxy S24 than the S23 FE did with the standard Galaxy S23. This should allow the phone to make short work of multitasking, a spot of light gaming and more.

There are three cameras on the back of the phone, and while this probably is the one area where the Pixel 9a can outdo Samsung, Galaxy phones are well-known for being reliable in almost all lighting situations, and Samsung’s photos tend to have a wonderfully saturated look that make them great for social media.

All of this is before mentioning the various benefits you get with Galaxy AI which, for just $499.99, makes the Galaxy S24 FE a seriously tempting package for anyone tied to a strict budget.
